Chuck Hawley Bio and Discography
|
Chuck was born in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Feb. 6, 1965. He lived in Texas and Oregon for a few years during grade school and in Socorro, New Mexico, from 7th grade thru his second year of college. This is where he began teaching himself guitar at age 15. Chuck moved to Albuquerque in 1987 after a year spent attending sound engineering school and soaking up the diverse music scene in Vancouver, Canada.
Chuck has explored several styles of music in his projects through the last 12 years. His late 80's project Splinter Fish was a seminal alternative band in the Albuquerque scene. This project was followed in '92-'95 by the 8-piece eclectic folk world-beat band Saha World Telegraph, and from '96 to '99 by Manna from Nowhere (previously aka Lucky Tortoise).
In '99, Chuck joined the established funk, jam-rock band The Withdrawals (check the Withdrawals link below).
In late '99, Chuck also began to more seriously delve into solo singer/songwriter territory. This format allows him to explore the greatest diversity in the most direct and intimate way. His solo playlist includes his best songs from past projects and newly evolving material that showcases his widely varied interests: rock, afro-beat, world music, alterna-folk, electronica and jazzy blues.
